Laurens showed exceptional class when taking home the Group 2 William Hill May Hill Stakes at Doncaster.
The Karl Burke 2-year-old filly was an impressive winner on her racecourse debut at this venue in July before filling the runner-up spot in the Group 3 Prix du Calvados at Deauville last month behind Freddy Head’s exciting filly Polydream.
Sent off the 11-4 favourite, Laurens struggled slightly when chasing Nyaleti, but when she clicked into overdrive her long, raking stride got her there just in time, winning by a head from Dark Rose Angel with the same back to Nyaleti.
Karl Burke is already dreaming of next year’s French Oaks, the Prix de Diane. Laurens immediate options now, however, are the Prix Marcel Boussac, for which she would need to be supplemented, or the Fillies’ Mile.
Laurens is by Siyouni and out of Recambe (Cape Cross). The filly was part of Coulonces Sales’ first draft sold at GOFFS UK’s Premier Yearling Sale last year. She became the top priced filly at the sale, when knocked down for 220,000 GNS to John and Jessica Dance.
Congratulations to all connections!
